Maintenance Update - Feb 2023

This blog post provides information about the ongoing updates of our services concerning the functioning of the websites under our management. We are providing this update due to advancements in the software we use and changes we make because we are always getting a little better at what we do. Please contact us if you have any questions about the information in this blog post.

Your website or websites are now running PHP 8.2 after our latest server updates. We've also made changes to the php.ini that cap file uploads to one file at a time but increased the upload maximum file size to 32MB, which allows for some video and larger PDF files to be uploaded.

Integrating GSC & Page Speed Insights

SEOPress has added features that allow us to integrate some Google services, like Google Search Console and Google Page Speed Insights. We are currently working to roll this out to all managed websites; however, some installations are not working as expected. We are in contact with the team at SEOPress to find the cause of the errors, and we will provide another update on this topic once this feature runs smoothly for all websites.

Our New Plugin

Our practices typically lead us to limit the customization of software to the extent possible. However, we use open-source software specifically because it can be modified. As a part of our continued efforts to run excellent WordPress environments, we have implemented our own plugin that makes nuanced modifications to a few aspects of the admin Dashboard. You can see the code and full disclosure on GitHub.

Discontinuing phpMyAdmin

phpMyAdmin is a web-based graphic user interface for databases. There are no instances where we are aware of our clients utilizing this utility; we use the Linux terminal to complete MySQL tasks. Most of the websites using phpMyAdmin acquired this software from a hosting company and was ported over when we migrated to Google Cloud or when you migrated to our services from another provider. At the time of this blog post, all phpMyAdmin pages have been disabled and will be removed entirely within a few weeks.

New Third-Party Services

We have updated our list of third-party services to include the Classic Editor, WP Crontrol, and Action Scheduler plugins, as well as adding the APIs that are part of the integrations discussed in this blog post. Please see our Third-Party Services page for details.
